The Hood Still Life Pt 1 was meant to be an ongoing series and hopefully this year in 2022 I can bring it back with a bigger drop. The purpose of this body of work was to provide a more urban look to the still lifes that we see in museums. I originally painted this piece in Oil Paint, which is not my strongest medium lately but I hope in time I can grow my technique to match the masters of old and give this painting the justice I know it deserves. I don't want to wait and have this idea sit in my head waiting for my skills to catch up. In the upcoming series, I will challenge myself to answer the question, 'Is digital art my preferred medium and strength?' Only time will tell, and I hope to let people see, generally speaking, the African-American community, reminders of familiar objects, and showcase our culture for the good, the bad, and the ugly.
